Litter Picking

Would you like to borrow some litter picking equipment to use around Ely? It’s all free to our volunteers. We have regular litter pickers, then some extra long ones for getting hard to reach stuff – 6ft and 4ft, plus Bag Hoops to hold your bin bags, and packs of 10 bin bags & labels so you can leave your filled bags next to any council street bin. It’s all FREE to borrow because YOU, our lovely volunteers, helped us crowd fund it 🙏 Thank you so much!

Please send a message to Hayley Ellis with anything you’d like to use this weekend.

Bags & labels – collect from Collier Close, Lynn Road or Sycamore Lane at any time.

Pickers & Hoops – collect & return from Collier Close, message Hayley Ellis to arrange.

What we do:

  • We adopt areas/streets to look after Ely and villages nearby
  • We do solo litter picks or with support bubbles
  • You can borrow equipment for free and we provide bags and labels “not fly tipping”
  • We plan to have large litter picking events and socials post lockdown

Why Do People Litter? That’s the 100 million dollar question and the #1 question I get asked when I’m out picking up litter or running a litter picking event. Unfortunately the answer is…there doesn’t seem to be one recurring reason but littering seems to be a common theme throughout the UK. I wanted to share a really good article which was developed in 2019 by Dr Elaine Massung Off the Ground around the reasons why people litter. This Sunday, why not grab a cuppa and have a read.
